The organizers of the 7th Health Services and Policy Research Conference are committed to implementing strategies and processes that will contribute to a reduction in health disparities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. As part of this commitment, we are hosting a pre-conference workshop for all Indigenous researchers, policy makers, and community members who will be attending this year’s conference. The workshop will provide an opportunity for Indigenous conference goers to network and prepare for the conference. The program will feature Indigenous speakers who are leading the way in health services research in Australia and New Zealand. There will also be sessions that focus on Indigenous health priorities with opportunities for Indigenous peoples to share information and learn from one another. All Indigenous peoples who plan on attending the HSR Conference are encouraged to register for this very important workshop.

The workshop is supported by the Conference Committee and registration is free. Lunch will be provided. There is a free city shuttle bus that goes to the venue. Venue location map below.

Please note this Workshop is intended for Indigenous conference delegates only. While we aim to promote the sharing of knowledge, we also understand that Indigenous peoples may need their own space to share stories and experiences with each other without outside interpretation or judgement. Non-Indigenous people may also need time and space to examine concepts of colonisation and its profound impact in the lives of Indigenous people today. These processes may need to take place before the two groups can come together effectively and safely for the remainder of the conference, (as discussed by Ramsden 2003; Consedine 2005).
