Emerging Rearchers and Students

ERGO is short for the Emerging Researchers Group and is the student/graduate chapter of the Health Services Research Association of Australia and New Zealand (HSRAANZ). It is a network of current masters and doctoral students as well as recent graduates (last 5 years) in Australia and New Zealand.

Meet the  Experts Session

This one hour session held from 12.30pm on Tuesday the 6th of December will have presenters from a range of backgrounds (such as academia, consulting and government).  They will discuss their own experiences in health services research and the pathway of their career.  The aim of the session is for ECRs to learn more about the possibilities for a career in health services research, and to come away with some practical ideas for their own career planning.

Prizes for the best poster and oral presentation are sponsored by the Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) 

HSRAANZ Poster/Oral Presentation Competition for emerging and new researchers at the upcoming 7th Health Services & Policy Research Conference.

Submission Deadline: Emerging researchers can nominate their work for inclusion in the competition up to 5:00 pm on 5pm Friday, 25th November 2011.

Description: The competition is for new and emerging researchers in Health Services Research. Poster and oral presentations that report the results of a research study completed by the applicant(s) will be judged on presentation, content, contribution to the project by the emerging researcher and originality.

There will be two prizes awarded: Best Oral Presentation and Best Poster Presentation.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant(s) must be registered attendee of the 7th Health Services & Policy Research Conference.
  2. Emerging Researches are defined as individuals who either:
    • Are currently enrolled in post-graduate study or
    • Have completed their most recent post-graduate degree within the past 5 years.
  3. Only one entry per applicant(s).
  4. Poster exhibits or oral presentations must be the original work of the applicant(s) submitting the application (i.e. the applicant must be the first-named and presenting author).
  5. Posters previously exhibited or papers presented orally at another conference in Australasia are not eligible.

NOTE: You do not have to be a member of the HSRAANZ to enter the competition.

Poster/Oral Presentation Application Review

Upon receipt of the HSRAANZ Awards and Competitions application, a number will be assigned to the entry. For posters, this number will be displayed on or by the side of the poster.

Awards

The competition winners will be announced at the Closing Plenary Session on WEDNESDAY, 7 December 2011.

The First Prize for the Oral Presentation will be awarded a prize of $250 and a Certificate indicating the Author(s) name, date, and title of the presentation.

The First Prize of the Poster Presentation will be awarded a prize of $100 and a Certificate indicating the Author(s) name, date, and title of the presentation.

If the winning entries were submitted as a group entry, the monetary award will be awarded to the primary author.

RESULTS FROM 2009 Brisbane Conference

ERGO Best Presentation Award Winners at 2009 HSRAANZ Conference:

First prize for the best oral presentation for New and Emerging Researchers at the Brisbane Conference was presented to Miranda Crumpston, Cochrane Centre, Monash University for her presentation “Identifying priorities for systematic reviews relevant to Australian policy makers.”  

Nikki Clelland, Menzies School of Health Research won the best poster presentation prize for her poster “Now more than ever … a tool for assessing primary health care systems support for health promotion”. A feature of this conference is a programme for emerging researcher and students organised by the Emerging Researchers Group (ERGO).
